There are many occasions when I am helping a client organize their home and they have a wedding dress that they don’t want to keep but don’t know what to do with it.  In some cases, they have multiple dresses from previous marriages or even dresses that family members have passed on to them.  I totally get it; these are sentimental items!  However, if the client truly is not attached to them, I will suggest that they let me give them to my friend and seamstress, Linda Jordan.  Linda is a wonderful resource because she will turn these dresses into Angel Gowns to be used at WakeMed. These gowns provide comfort for bereaved families through the gift of a beautiful custom-made gown for final photos and for burial services.  I cannot think of a better way to repurpose an unwanted wedding dress.  Even if the dress has some damage (stain or tear), Linda will work her magic by saving the lace or other details to be used as an accent on a piece of fabric from another gown.  It is truly amazing to see the transformation and the beauty of these little gowns, suits and bags.

When Linda gets a break from weddings, proms and craft shows, she applies her time to making these beautiful pieces.  If you or someone you know has an unwanted gown, please consider donating to her for repurposing.  It truly is a win/win situation.  The families are blessed with a beautiful custom piece of clothing to honor their little one and you no longer have an unwanted dress in the corner of your closet.  In many cases, each wedding dress can make up to 20 gowns.

If you do have a gown to give locally, please fill out the contact form and I will coordinate a time to pick it up from you and will get it to Linda.  You can also contact her directly at 703-785-5845.
